Physiotherapy Consultations

At In Touch Physiotherapy Subiaco, I modify treatment to match the source of your problem, taking into account your needs, goals and lifestyle. My vision is for you to leave empowered with accurate information and the skills to continue your rehabilitation at home.

What to bring

A doctor’s referral is only required if your condition is related to Workers Compensation, Veterans Affairs or Medicare EPC. Insurance clients also need to bring information related to their injury, the insurance claim and work details, as well as their referral.

Practical aspects

  • Street parking is available in Churchill Ave. Trains, buses and CAT buses are nearby.
  • Please wear or bring, loose comfortable clothing, or a singlet top and shorts, to allow a comprehensive examination.

Appointment information

I respect that your time is valuable and attempt to run on schedule. I will notify you in advance if a delay is likely to be more than ten minutes. If you need to cancel, please do so as early as possible to allow someone else to use your allocated time. Repeated cancellations or missed appointment are charged a $25 fee.

Financial information

My fees are based on the Australian Physiotherapy Association [APA] recommendations. They consider my advanced qualifications, extensive experience, time writing reports and clinic costs. Fees are time based and flexible.

Shorter appointments are available on request. Please ask Helen for further information.

I accept payment by cheque, cash, debit, Visa and Mastercard after I claim your health fund rebate with HICAPS.

Insurance Claims

If you have a motor vehicle insurance claim, you will need to pay me the full fee on the day and claim the refund amount directly from the insurance company. There will be a “gap” between my fee and that rebated. Please ask me for further details before your consultation.

How many visits will I need?

This depends on the severity and pathology of your problem, how long you have had it and whether multiple factors are involved. However, I always expect some change within two sessions. Your age, your response to the first treatment, and your willingness to do exercises and make suggested lifestyle changes also influence recovery.

My goal is to get you back to pain-free function as quickly as possible, and to provide you with strategies so you can then independently maintain your own health.

Earlier treatment may optimise recovery.

Initial consultation

This may take 25 to 55 minutes to allow time for discussion and goal setting.

At the first consultation I will:

  • Ask you to tell your story and relevant history, and to explain what you would like to gain from our consultation
  • Conduct a thorough examination to exclude pathology, isolate injured structures, and identify posture and movement patterns that are contributing to your problem
  • Explain my working diagnosis
  • Commence “hands on” treatment and self-care advice
  • Discuss a management plan with your input.

Subsequent consultations

These last about 25 minutes. You can arrange a longer consultation if you have several problems you would like treated at one visit. A higher fee will be charged.

If you have a chronic problem you may wish to continue self-care training, posture, and motor control improvement over six weeks to help delay possible recurrence.

I will review you by email or phone four to six weeks after your last treatment.

"Looking forward to meeting you and to solving your pain and movement problems"
